Engineering for Development Continuing Education Scholarship in Switzerland 2020

The Engineering for Development Continuing Education Scholarship grants awards for travel and living costs to applicants from low-income nations to attend continuing education programs at ETH Zurich.

The aim of the scholarship program is to improve the knowledge and skills of prospective leaders with the perspective of adding to capacity growth and poverty reduction in their home nations.

Eligibility for Engineering for Development Continuing Education Scholarship

  • The applicant must possess a completed and accepted Master’s degree from a university and evidence of professional working experience of a minimum of 2 years.
  • A TOEFL level C1. If the continuing education program needs a minimal level in another language, evidence of this level must also be submitted.
  • The scholarship program is available to applicants from nations classified in the DAC-​list of the OECD.
  • Applicants are required to be accepted by the School for Continuing Education, ETH Zurich, and also the MAS, DAS, or CAS program office.

E4D Continuing Education Scholarship Programme Benefits

The following costs will be provided by the scholarship award (for the successful candidate):

  • Economy roundtrip ticket (max. 2,000 CHF)
  • Visa fees
  • Living allowance for the duration of the program
  • ETH tuition fee waiver (660 CHF each semester)

The following costs will NOT be provided by the scholarship program:

  • The program fees of the MAS/CAS/DAS are not provided by the E4D Continuing Education Scholarship program.
  • The cost of application to the School for Continuing Education of 150 CHF will not be provided. However, in the event an application to the E4D continuing education scholarship program is valid but not chosen, the fee can be reimbursed to applicants from low-income nations.

How to Apply for Engineering for Development Continuing Education Scholarship

Only applicants who are given admission to an ETH MAS, DAS, or CAS program on the basis of his/her academic and professional qualifications are given consideration for a scholarship award. Applicants have to apply to both (I) a continuing education program and (II) to the E4D scholarship program.

The application documents to be submitted include:

  • Completed application form
  • CV of the candidate
  • MSc or Masters Diploma and academic transcript(s)
  • 1-2 page letter of application, describing the motivation to attend the program and the effect on the applicant’s career development and beyond
  • Two professional references
  • Official admission letter by the School for Continuing Education verifying that the applicant is granted admission to the MAS, DAS or CAS program for the respective semester
  • Certificate of employment. The certificate of employment letter have to be sent to the E4D program office directly via the employer (and not the applicant)
  • Certificate of English level (at least TOEFL level C1). If the program needs a minimal level, evidence of this acquired level has to also be submitted.
