Universität Hamburg assists its foreign students on their journey to the successful conclusion of their degrees with International Degree Completion Scholarships.

These scholarships are typically granted for 6 months with funding ranging between €200 and a maximum of €720.

Eligibility for International Degree Completion Scholarships at Universität Hamburg

To be eligible for this program, applicants must:

  • not be German citizens;
  • not be eligible for BAföG (federal student loan scheme);
  • be getting ready for or are in the final examination stage of their studies;
  • possess no financial backing during this stage (evidence required).

How to Apply for International Degree Completion Scholarships at Universität Hamburg

Online applications require the following documents:

  • CV
  • reason for your application
  • timetable describing all stages leading to your final examination
  • an assessment from the supervisor of your final dissertation

You have to upload these credentials to the online application page.

Only applications finished in full and submitted within the application closing date can be given consideration. Please begin gathering together your application credentials early and be ready to upload them to the application website.

For your application, you will need an assessment from your supervisor. Your supervisor has to be a professor hired at Universität Hamburg full time who teaches and researches autonomously in his or her field. Sadly, we are not able to accept assessments from acting professors, Privatdozenten, or emeritus professors.

The assessment should show that you are expected to conclude your final examination within the time of funding for which you are submitting an application. Please ensure that the evaluation is submitted by the deadline.
