The University of Pretoria (UP) in conjunction with the MasterCard Foundation (MCF) is presently offering scholarships for outstanding African students interested in studying at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, starting in January 2020.

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) aims at educationally gifted yet financially underprivileged young people in Africa who will add to the transformation of the continent through their knowledge, skills, approaches, and ideas demonstrated by their leadership. Community service and internships are important constituents of the Program.

Benefits of MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program at University of Pretoria 2020 

If your MCFSP application is positive the Program will comprise the following:

  • Complete tuition fees
  • Accommodation in a UP dwelling
  • Meals
  • Books and printed material
  • A modest monthly stipend
  • Medical aid
  • Travel expenses (one return trip for the length of the study period)

University of Pretoria MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program for Postgraduates.

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) at the University of Pretoria (UP) for full-time postgraduate study is available to scholars who have before now concluded a bachelor’s degree and are inhabitants or citizens of an African nation. This Program targets academically qualified, yet financially underprivileged, young people in Africa who will go back to contribute to the transformation of their countries. Applicants should not already be in possession of a Master’s Degree/ Qualification.

Post Graduate

  • Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences
  • Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
  • Faculty of Humanities for admission into the Honours or Masters (Political Studies or International Studies only)
  • Faculty of Engineering – continuing students are qualified to apply

How to Apply for University of Pretoria MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program.

Step 1

You may apply online at www.up.ac.za/apply.

To make use of the online Application system, you will require Internet access and an email address that you can gain access to frequently. As soon as you submit your online application, a student number (EMPLID) will be sent to this email address as validation of receipt.

On the other hand, you can submit a paper copy of your application form to the following address:

Step 2

The application will be assessed by members of the applicable faculty and you will be notified of the outcome.

Undergraduate candidates are required to write the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the National Benchmark Test (NBT). Please check www.collegeboard.org and http://www.nbt.ac.za/ for additional details. Please verify with your faculty concerning the requirements for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the National Benchmark Test (NBT).

Postgraduate candidates are required to have their certificates verified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Please visit www. saqa.org.za.
