Job Position – Engineer, Power Planning (Supervisory)

Job Description for Engineer, Power Planning (Supervisory)

  • Seek and make sure the execution of energy solution and Optimization that reduces the running cost to the business.
  • Assist the Shareholder return strategy by creating and executing Network Group Processes that are positioned to achieving all elements on the business scorecard.
  • Assist in setting up the annual budgetary plan for the unit – Power Management (CAPEX).
  • Assist in the devising and execution of strategic cost reduction and saving in Opex/CAPEX
  • Make sure there is non-indulgent adherence to all policies, processes, and procedures of MTN for power planning systems and further improvement to strengthen efficiency.
  • Ascertain that all power executions are implemented in line with standards and specifications of MTN and in support of all national and international best practices.
  • Make sure all presentations, reports on overall power systems of the network are available.
  • Make sure a precise database of power and cooling systems are available and updated as required.
  • Create, carry out and keep an efficient management information system for the Power Planning unit.
  • Carry out audits and make sure the correct application of cooling conforms to the specification.
  • Find cost-effective energy solutions and construct plans for their approvals and implementation.
  • Precision and dimensioning of power requirements for installations.
  • Oversee and accept power installations done by vendors.
  • Make full operational power application and use.
  • Get ready, advance and seek approvals for budgetary plans for all M&E projects in MTNN.
  • To supervise through visits to sites and obtaining of information from the ESS team to make sure appropriate capacities are available.
  • Create a scope of work and specifications for all M&E systems.
  • Substantiate scope of work and ensure acceptance of power, cooling and M&E projects
  • Verify and confirm proof of concepts for trials on Power and Energy initiatives
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external suppliers.
  • Participate in conferences, meetings, seminars, workshops, etc. as required and assigned by the line manager
  • Participate in MTN Group technological initiatives, RFPs, etc. as required and assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirement for Engineer, Power Planning (Supervisory)

  • Minimum of BSC/HND in Electrical/Electronic from a reputable Institution.
  • Membership and certification from an accredited engineering body.
  • Candidates with a PG.D are at an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years of work experience in M&E designs and installations, Power and Cooling system dimensioning.
  • Adept in Auto card application or other technical design software.
  • Excellent know-how of Data Center designs and knowledge of Tier Certification requirements.
  • Ability to obtain technical data and analyses.
  • Credible experience in Power System Strategy.
  • Procurement and contract processes.
  • Credible work experience in overseeing power and cooling systems in a telecommunications environment.
  • Reliable work history in project supervision would be an advantage.

  • Push performance to ascertain that Service performance is measured and reported to meet business and customer objectives to achieve our current and future agreed needs of the business in a timely manner.
  • Ascertain there is proper Business Service recording in place.
  • Back up the Shareholder return strategy by creating and executing Information Systems Processes that are regulated to achieving all elements on the business scorecard.
  • Engage in the review of Business Processes to push efficiency gains to at least 5% reduction in Divisional budget year-on-year.
  • Ascertain integrity of financial disciplines within the ESM environment with consideration to OPEX and CAPEX.
  • Engage in the examination of resource requirements for EMS and contribute in getting ready the budget for IS Infrastructure operations and services.
  • Attend to the Division’s customers and device solutions to advance the customer experience.
  • Proper researched and prepared tactics for the smooth delivery of MTN Group and MTNN transformation initiatives focusing on Customer centricity.
  • Liaise with IS process teams and management to discuss process dysfunction, causes, and possible solutions and introduce the approach to delivering related improvement initiatives.

  • Should have spent 3 years in managing service level management process in a large organization.
