Qualifications 

  • Applicants should have any of the following educational or professional qualifications:
  1. West African School Certificate/Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
  2. General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level.
  3. WAEC City and Guilds Certificate or London City and Guilds Certificate.
  4.  Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
  5.  Another educational qualification is equivalent and relevant to those stated above.
  • Applicants must present their primary school leaving certificate.
  • Applicants are to be aware that entry requirement into any of the categories is SSCE or its equivalent. Other additional qualifications in these categories can only be considered as an added advantage for selection into the branch and not for advancement.
  • Applicants with higher educational/professional qualifications like HND orBA/BSc etc other from those stated above should not apply. Candidates are warned that it is illegal to declare false educational/professional qualifications. This will mean outright withdrawal or dismissal and will be handed over to Civil Police for prosecution.
  • Any certificate or qualification not presented or submitted and accepted during the recruitment process is not tenable after recruitment and cannot be presented for a change of branch or promotion while in the Naval service. Only qualifications obtained through proper service provisions are acceptable after joining.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 22 years at the time of Application and entry into the Training School for school certificate holders, while 24 years of age is the maximum acceptable age limit for those with higher qualifications such as Nurses; NCE Holders; ICT Professionals.
  • Applicants must be single and have no children before joining.
  • An applicant is to print out the Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Local Government Attestation Form.
  • Applicants should be of Nigerian origin by birth only.
  • Applicants having any of these mentioned medical disabilities are NOT to apply: short-sightedness; ear problem; previous orthopedic operation; flat foot; below the acceptable height (Male 1.70, Female 1.67); fracture; stammering or any natural disability.
  • Applicants must be discharged from any previous conviction by a court of law on criminal charges.

Entry Requirement

  • A1 – Marine Engineer Artificers: OND in Marine or Mechanical Engineering (at least Lower Credit) and must also possess SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry inclusive.
  • A2 – Weapon Electrical Artificers: OND in Electrical Electronic Engineering (at least Lower Credit) and must also have SSCE or its equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry inclusive.
  • A3 – Aircraft Engineering Artificers (Airframe Engine): Diploma in Airframe & Engine acknowledged by ICAO and should also have SSCE or its equivalent with a minimum of 5 credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry inclusive.
  • A4 – Aircraft Engineering Artificers (Avionics & Aircraft Electrics, Electrical/Electronics): Certificate/Diploma in Aircraft Electrics & Avionics accredited by ICAO and must have SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry inclusive.
  • A5 – Hull Engineer Artificers: OND in Marine or Mechanical Engineering (at least Lower Credit) and should have SSCE or its equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry inclusive.
  • B1 – Marine Engineer Mechanics: Possession of SSCE or its equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry inclusive. Also, intermediate City & Guilds or Trade Test II could be acceptable. Technical know-how is an advantage.
  • B2 – Weapon Electrical Mechanics: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry inclusive. Also, intermediate City & Guilds or Trade Test II could be accepted and technical knowledge is an advantage.
  • B3 – Hull Mechanical/Fitters: Same as in B1 and B2 with additional trade in plumbing, welding, machining or woodwork.
  • B4 – Automobile Mechanics: As is stated in B1.
  • B5 – Dockyard Mechanics: As is discussed in B1.
  • C1 – Communications: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths and Physics inclusive.
  • C2 – Computer: OND in Computer Studies/Computer Science (at least Lower Credit), Desktop Publishing, Office Suite and must also have a minimum of 5 Credits in English Language and Maths inclusive.
  • C3 – ICT: OND in Computer Studies/Computer Science (at least Lower Credit), Computer literacy is required and must have a minimum of 5 Credits in English Language, Maths and Physics inclusive. Proficient and industry certification in any of the below-stated areas will be an advantage:
  1. Database.
  2. Computer-Aided Design.
  3. Personal Computer Maintenance.
  4. Networking Fundamentals.
  5. Website Development and Management.
  6. Programming.
  • D1 – Seaman: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language and Maths inclusive.
  • D2 – Survey Recorders: OND in Land Survey, Cartography, Geographic Information System (at least Lower Credit) and must also have SSCE or its equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Physics or Geography or Technical Drawing inclusive.
  • D3 – Physical Training Instructors: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits In the English Language. Passion and evident talents in sports and also evidence of engagement in sports at Secondary School/State/YSFON level are compulsory.
  • D4 – Chaplain Assistants: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language and Christian Religious Knowledge inclusive. Two years of credible experience as clergy/church worker and also a letter of recommendation by 2 Clerics/churches acknowledged by the NN is expected.
  • D5 – Mosque Assistants: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in Arabic, Islamic Religious Knowledge and English Language inclusive. Two years of experience as an Imam/Mosque attendant and also a letter of recommendation by 2 Islamic clerics/organizations accepted by the NN is compulsory.
  • D6 – Firemen: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in other subjects and English Language inclusive.
  • E1 – Writers: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Accounts/Economics inclusive. Computer skill is required. Also, OND/NCE in Accounts or Secretariat Administration would be an advantage.
  • E2 – Store Assistants: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths and Economics inclusive. Computer skills will be an advantage.
  • E3 – Caterers: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language and Home Management/Food Nutrition inclusive. Certificate or Navy credible experience as a Waiter or Steward is an added advantage.
  • E4 – Ordinance: Should have 5 credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry inclusive and other 2 subjects.
  • E5 – Project Technicians: OND in a related discipline such as Architecture; Quantity Survey; Civil/ Structure/ Building technology; Electrical/ Mechanical installation; Urban and Rural Planning; Estate Management and Land Economy and must also have SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths and Physics inclusive.
  • F1 – Medical Assistants: SSCE or it’s equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Maths, Chemistry, Biology/ Health Science and Physics inclusive.

  • J – Journalists: must possess an OND in Mass Communication; Journalism; Photography; Printing Technology; Information Library; Public Relations; Graphic Arts; Film Making and Cinematography and should also have SSCE or its equivalent with 5 credits in 5 subjects inclusive of English Language and Maths.
  • K – Nurses: Single qualification RN and double qualification in any related qualification such as RM; A&E; ENT; Psychiatric; Paediatric; Orthopaedic/Trauma; Ophthalmic; Anesthetic; Public Health; Occupational Health; Nephrology/Dialysis all Theatre Nursing and should also have SSCE or its equivalent with 5 credits in English Language; Maths; Biology/Health Science; Physics and Chemistry.
  • N – Education: NCE in Arts/Science/Technical subjects and should have SSCE or its equivalent with 5 Credits in 5 subjects inclusive of English Language and Maths for Science/Technical subjects or 5 credits in 5 subjects Inclusive of English Language and the minimum of a pass in Maths for Arts subjects.
