The Pan African University is an ingenuity of the leaders and government of the African Union. It is a foremost continental university system whose objective is to offer valuable postgraduate education targeted towards the attainment of a prosperous, integrated and peaceful Africa.

Young, competent, talented and resourceful candidates from African nations and the African Diaspora are welcomed to apply to join Masters or Ph.D. degree programs at any of the following four PAU institutes itemized below. Applicants with potential, drive and who wish to play transformative governance roles as academics, industrialists, professionals, innovators, and entrepreneurs are especially encouraged to apply.

  • Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology, and Innovation (PAUSTI), at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya.
  • Pan African University Institute for Life and Earth Sciences- including Health and Agriculture (PAULESI), at the University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria.
  • Pan African University Institute for Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS), at the University of Yaounde II and the University of Buea, Cameroon.
  • Pan African University Institute for Water and Energy Sciences -including climate change (PAUWES), at the University of Tlemcen, Algeria.

Eligibility for Pan African University Fully Funded Scholarships for Young Africans 2019/2020

Admission Requirements for Masters Programmes *

Candidates must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Undergraduate degree from a renowned university, with a minimum of a second class upper division or its equal, in a related field;
  • Official copies of applicable certificates, transcripts (from university and high school),
  • National passport (personal details page);
  • Clear colored passport size photograph(2cmx2cm);
  • Detailed CV;
  • Recommendation letters from 2 Professors
  • A statement of motivation demonstrating why you desire to pursue your study at the Pan African University;
  • Highest age of 30 years for male and 35 years for female candidates.

Applicants may be needed to undertake a written/oral examination after pre-selection.

Applicants for the Master in Conference Interpreting and Translation programs are expected to have brilliant knowledge of a minimum of two of the African Union’s official languages (Arabic, English, French and Portuguese).

Admission Requirements for Doctoral Programmes

Candidates must satisfy the following conditions:

  • A Master’s degree in a related discipline from PAU or any globally renowned university;
  • Certified copies of relevant certificates, transcripts,
  • Copy of Passport (personal details page);
  • A 3 to 4-page research idea paper (provisional title, research questions, objectives, the significance of the research, etc…)
  • Recommendation letters from 2 Professors
  • Clear colored passport size photograph (2cmx2cm);
  • Detailed CV
  • A statement of motivation demonstrating why you wish to pursue your study at the Pan African University;
  • Highest age of 35 years for male and 40 years for female candidates.

The African Union Commission will provide full scholarships to the successful African applicants.
