Australian National University is providing the Peter and Lena Karmel Honours Scholarship to high achieving students who are looking at pursuing a degree program at the Institution.
The School of Art in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences will offer a scholarship of $5,000 per annum for an undergraduate degree program in the session 2022/2023.

Eligibility for Peter and Lena Karmel Honours Scholarship at ANU
- Applicants for the Peter and Lena Karmel Honours Scholarship must have an outstanding academic record in Art and have demonstrated a high capacity for achievement in his or her chosen field of Arts practice
- Candidates are required to satisfy specific English language requirements so as to be able to study at the university
- Candidates must possess excellent academic results
- Candidates have to be eligible for admission at the university in the Honours Year of the Bachelor of Arts (Visual) with Honours, or the Bachelor of Visual Arts (with Honours), or Bachelor of Design Arts with Honours.
A Selection Committee of at least three members of the academic staff of the School of Art, chaired by the Head of the School of Art (or nominee) shall select the scholars.
When making recommendations the Selection Committee shall take into account:
- the merit of the Honours application;
- the endorsement of the relevant Head of Workshop;
- the applicant’s academic record; and
- the presentation at the end of semester six exhibition, or equivalent folio documentation.
The Peter and Lena Karmel Honours Scholarship award shall not be granted if, in the opinion of the Selection Panel, there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
Peter and Lena Karmel Honours Scholarship at ANU – How to Apply
To be given consideration for the opportunity, candidates have to secure admission in an undergraduate degree program at the Australian National University. After securing admission, students will be automatically given consideration for this education award. Applications are accepted between 1st April the year prior to the awarding of the scholarship and close on the 31st March in the same year of the scholarship.
The scholar may be registered on a full-time or part-time basis in the appropriate program offered by the School of Art. If a scholar fails to enrol for the Honours year of the program or withdraws from the program, the Scholarship must be surrendered.
Deferral of the Scholarship award, after the scholar has registered, may be approved by the Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences conditional on concurrent approval for a leave of absence from the applicable program being secured from the relevant Program Authority.
The scholarship award shall terminate at the end of the second semester for which it was granted or on the date on which the scholar stops to attend the University other than for approved absences, whichever comes first. The University may terminate the scholarship award prior to this time if the scholar does not fulfil his or her obligations or if, in the opinion of the Dean of the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences, acting on the advice of the Head of the School of Art, satisfactory academic progress is not being made by the scholar.
It is expected that Peter and Lena Karmel Honours Scholarship award in the School of Art, beneficiaries may be asked to take part in publicity of the scholarship award from time to time. This may comprise publicity in the state or region of residence or of schooling. Scholars may be gotten in touch with for an interview and photograph. The University may also publicise the scholarship awards by publishing the names of the recipients. Arrangements for such public relations will be made via the Communications and External Liaison Office of the University.
