The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) provides awards in support of international students not living in Italy and Italian nationals residing abroad for the academic year 2019-2020 in order to nurture global cultural, scientific and technological collaboration, to boost Italian language and values and to uphold Italy’s economic structure in the world (In line with Law 288/55 and its consequent changes and embellishments).

Eligibility for The Italian Government Scholarship for International Students

Academic qualifications

Applications can only be put in by international students not living in Italy and by Italian nationals residing abroad in possession of an appropriate academic qualification needed to enrol to the Italian University/Institute (more details on https://studyinitaly.esteri.it/en/Recognition-of-qualification).

Age requirements

Candidates for Master’s Degree/Higher Learning in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Courses/ Italian Language and Culture programmes must not be over 28 years old by the closing date of this call (May 30th, 2019), with the sole exemption of renewals.

Candidates for PhD degrees must not be over 30 years old by the closing date of this call (May 30th, 2019), with the sole exemption of renewals.

Candidates for Research Projects under academic observation should not be above 40 years old by the closing date of this call (May 30th, 2019).

Language proficiency

Italian-taught courses

To enrol in an Italian-taught programme, candidates must tender a certificate of their expertise in the Italian language. The minimum grade compulsory is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

Applicants who were registered in the Italian programme at the University may tender a language accreditation issued by a language instructor of the University department.

English-taught courses

In this case, candidates need to make available a language certificate of their expertise in the English Language. The minimum grade compulsory is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Proof of expertise in Italian is not needed for programmes completely taught in English.

Self-certification may be usable for applicants from nations where English is an official language and who are putting in for programmes held completely in English.
