Job Description for National Professional Officer – Laboratory (NO-C) – World Health Organization WHO Job Recruitment

  • Will function as the subject matter expert for laboratory within the health operations and expertise team.
  • Will lend assistance to the laboratory section of the incident management system, and give technical support to the Federal Ministry of Health (MOH) and partners within the health sector.
  • Render technical aid to the National Reference Laboratory to strengthen laboratory capacity for rapid detection and response to priority pathogens.
  • Create and execute training workshops to advance sample collection, packaging, and shipping at national and state levels.
  • Oversee the national specimen transportation and referral system for epidemic-prone diseases.
  • Liaise with WHO County office clusters to give technical and operational support to make sure of prompt ordering of laboratory reagents and consumables and execution of laboratory-related work plans to bolster laboratory capacity at public and state laboratories.
  • Enforce compliance with laboratory practice and biosafety management at public and state laboratories.
  • Supervision of the public health network stock management and supply chain system for laboratory consumables.

  • Advanced University degree (Master’s level or above) in Life Science, Medicine or Medical Virology from an accredited institute.
  • Certified training in molecular biology, virology, bacteriology, infectious diseases, and/or epidemiology and laboratory techniques.
  • Possession of a Master’s level certificate in public health or health-related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of practical and operational application and management of laboratory services, laboratory diagnosis of communicable diseases at the local and international levels.
  • Credible knowledge of planning and executing laboratory training at national and regional levels.
  • Previous experience in UN organizations, health cluster partners, renowned humanitarian organizations, international institutions or NGOs, particularly in developing countries.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, spreadsheet and databases, EPI Info, SPSS etc…
  • Productive worker.

Job Description for Infectious Hazard Management (IHM) Officer – World Health Organization WHO Job Recruitment

  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the national strategies and work plans pertaining to the prevention and control of high threat diseases of pandemic & epidemic potential or infectious risks.
  • Oversee the early prevention, detection, and investigation of any risks of outbreaks and the distribution of data related to the occurrence.
  • Adopt IHM global policies, ideas and strategies and oversee their execution at the country level.
  • Assist with the surveillance and risk analysis of infectious diseases.
  • Engage in the quick response teams responsible for the rapid investigation of alerts, field risk assessments, and early detection and response.
  • Submit periodic reporting of infectious hazards activities, reinforce the information systems and the monitoring facilitating integration with the national health information systems.

Job Requirements for Infectious Hazard Management (IHM) Officer – World Health Organization WHO Job Recruitment

  • First University degree in medicine, public health or health-related field from a recognized institute.
  • Professional qualification in epidemiology or in the study of infectious diseases.
  • Advanced University Degree in public health or health-related field from an accredited institute.
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in planning, developing and executing the control and prevention of infectious diseases programme.
  • Work experience in related areas with WHO, other UN agencies or other recognized international organizations
  • Reliable to liaise with the government, manage projects, build partnerships with multiple partners in the context of health emergencies.

  • Possession of a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Malariology or Communicable Diseases Epidemiology.
  • Should have 5 years of experience in the structuring and examination of national disease surveillance systems.
  • Not less than 5 years of working experience in a malaria control programme.
  • Adept knowledge of the principles and practices of communicable disease epidemiology with specific experience in malaria surveillance and operational research.
  • Credible skills and adequate knowledge of the development and examination of disease surveillance systems in a public health setting
